v2.0.0 ยท Changelog

Version 2.0.0

DroneForge changelog notes for the v2.0.0 release.

DroneForge Nimbus App v2.0.0 is our biggest update yet.

We completely redesigned the user experience around what Nimbus should do best: flight. The Nimbus App is now focused on making it easier to control drones, understand their state, and keep them in the air longer while developers build and test real drone behavior.

Redesigned for flight

v2.0.0 moves Nimbus into a cleaner, more flight-first workflow.

The interface has been reworked around the parts of drone development that matter in the moment: reliable controls, reliable state estimation, and integrated tools that help the pilot and developer stay focused on the aircraft.

That shift is important for AI drones and autonomous drone development because the Nimbus App needs to support both experimentation and real flight time. A good workflow should help you understand the drone quickly, make decisions confidently, and recover from mistakes without fighting the Nimbus App.

More reliable controls

The control experience is more dependable in v2.0.0.

Nimbus is now better positioned for practical flight sessions where developers need to test agents, tune behavior, and work with real hardware without unnecessary friction.

Better state estimation

State estimation reliability has also improved.

For development drones, state estimation is one of the most important parts of the stack. It affects how the aircraft is understood by the software, how autonomy tools reason about motion, and how confidently developers can test higher-level behavior.

A difficult product decision

We made the difficult decision to step away from the IDE and node-based programming experiences.

Those tools helped shape the early Nimbus direction, but v2.0.0 is more focused. Instead of asking builders to manage programming surfaces that sit beside the flight workflow, Nimbus now introduces integrated tools designed around maneuverability and real drone operation.

Why it matters

v2.0.0 is a reset around flight.

The goal is a better DroneForge Nimbus App for FPV drones, AI drone development, and autonomous drone workflows: less friction, stronger control, clearer state, and an experience that helps keep the drone in the air longer.

Release context

This changelog entry is part of the DroneForge release archive for Nimbus and DF1. The archive helps builders understand how the autonomy stack has changed over time, including updates to setup, Nimbus App behavior, Python Library workflows, documentation, hardware notes, flight workflows, and community-facing product polish.

Older releases are still useful when comparing versions, debugging a local installation, or following the path from early drone connectivity work to current autonomous flight tooling. Use these notes as historical context alongside the current documentation, Nimbus App releases, and Python Library updates.

For current projects, compare these archived notes with the latest release before making setup decisions. DroneForge continues to refine how developers connect hardware, stream telemetry, inspect video, run agents, and build repeatable autonomy workflows.
